Special Events
- The New York District Leadership Training Conference: March 18th-March 20th 2015, at the Desmond Hotel on Albany Shaker Rd., in Albany, New York: The Leadership Training Conference is an annual gathering of Key Clubbers from around the state of New York. Anyone who has attended this conference in the past can attest to the fact that it is amazing. I myself have been three times, and I will be going again this April. I have never been to a gathering of high school students where the students are more enthusiastic, passionate, and friendly than those at LTC. The weekend is full of workshops that are about everything from those that are Key Club related (including running for higher office and how to run a successful fundraiser) to those that are just plain fun (like improv acting). At night, everyone unwinds at dances organized in the large indoor courtyard at the hotel.
- The Key Club International Convention June 24th -June 28th 2015, in Indianapolis, INdiana: This is an experience that parallels if not exceeds the Leadership Training Conference. Key Clubbers gather from all over America and all over the world. I've met people from Canada, the Bahamas, Jamaica, Barbados, the United Kingdom, and even Australia. There are probably attendees from other countries to, I just didn't meet them as it is hard to know everyone at a conference with over 1,500 attendees. Similar to LTC, there are workshops and dances at ICON. Typically, the New York District tours the city that is hosting ICON for a few days before ICON begins. Those going to ICON in the summer of 2014 will likely get to see Anaheim and Los Angeles*.
*While the New York District typically arranges a tour before ICON, no tour for ICON 2014 has been announced yet. Therefore, I make no promises as to any destinations or attractions that attendees will see outside of the official conference dates.
